ON WRITING
Paul Giada has been writing ever since he
was a child. During his earliest stages, he created comic book characters
and entire worlds in which they existed. Since he was not the best
artist, however, they never came into fruition. Nevertheless, notebooks
were devoted to the writing portion and character development.
High
school is when Paul really began to take his writing seriously.
He wrote volumes of poetry and short stories. While in college,
he began to get some of his work published. However, he still couldn't
fathom a writing career. He graduated instead with a degree in Psychology
from the University of North Carolina, minoring in Eastern Philosophy.
A
year later, he went back to school at the University of Colorado,
Boulder. He studied to become an English teacher, specializing in
creative writing and film. More poems and short stories were published.
Upon graduating from the University of Colorado, he could no longer
fend off his calling for a career in the Entertainment Industry.
Paul
finally left for Hollywood. His goal: to become an influential screenwriter,
director, and producer. He is a graduate of the UCLA Professional
Screenwriting Program. Since living in LA, Paul has already written
eight feature-length screenplays and seven short films (one of which,
Tempus Fugit, Paul also directed and produced). The Jadecats,
on the other hand, has been an idea in development for many years,
waiting for just the right time. Finally, that time has arrived
and the world is ready for it.
ON
THE MARTIAL ARTS
During
middle school, Paul began studying the martial arts. He started
off in a Karate class and studied there throughout high school.
Once he received his black belt, Paul moved on to study Chinese
Kung Fu. He began in the Hung Gar style (Tiger/Crane) and moved
through a series of teachers in college until he graduated. He studied
such varied styles as Eagle Claw, Black Dragon, Praying Mantis,
White Lotus, and Drunken Monkey.
But
it wasn't until he reached Colorado that his true expertise was
reached. During his five year stay, Paul studied with Shirfu Christophe,
a master of Tai Chi Chuan and Shaolin Longfist. He quickly excelled
and was awarded a black sash (belt) several years later.
He won many tournaments during his peak and went on to win the 1997
National Kung Fu Championships. His teacher was also a local movie
star, starring in many low-budget martial arts films. This furthered
Paul's knowledge and drive for the movies.
Since
being in LA, Paul has choreographed and acted in several low-budget
martial arts films. But it is time for his true calling to be realized:
Screenwriting and Production. Armed with an expert sense of action
and a head full of Eastern culture, it seemed only natural that
the Jadecats would fight their way out of Paul's temple of imagination
into the jadelight, er... limelight that is.
