The
Eight Immortals are a group of demigods that roam the land in search of
adventure. They offer wisdom and balance to those they encounter.
The Eight Immortals from Chinese legends are as follows:
Chung-li Ch'uan
The
leader of the group, decorated soldier, and occasionally the messenger
for the Elder Gods. He is a wise man, a sage, known to carry a
magic peach, which contains the Elixir of Life, and an Iron Fan of Resurrection.
Han Hsian Tzu
The
patron immortal of musicians and magicians. He sings and plays
the flute. He is the rebel of the group. Click his name for a pop-up picture.
Ho Hsien Ku
A
very beautiful woman, patron immortal of virtue. She carries a
lotus blossom and sometimes plays a reed and flies on a Magic

Chang Kuo
He
sits on a donkey and sometimes carries a baby to expecting families.
He is the personification of the wind, whose donkey can fly at
great speeds. He plays the Thunder Drums. Click his name for a pop-up picture.
Lu Tung-Pin
The
patron immortal of barbers because of his mastery with swords.
He always carries his magic sword in one hand and a fan in the
other. He can fly through the air and walk on clouds.
Li T'ieh-Kuai
This
wise beggar carries an iron crutch and a magic gourd full of shamanic
medicine. He is better known to the Jadecats and the villagers
as The Witch Doctor. He rides a magic deer which can also transform
into a crab.
Lan Ts'ai-Ho
The
patron immortal of florists, always adorned with bouquets of flowers
or baskets of peaches. Can transform from man to woman and charms
with his song.
Ts'ao Ku-Chiu
The
patron immortal of actors. He plays the castanets and carries
his magic Jade Tablet of Admission, which can grant him
passage anywhere.
